I am not suggesting that anyone should stop taking any medication for it. I know very well it is painful. But if you are at home and you dont have medication you can consider a natural home remedy that works.

Coffee
Drinking a strong cup of coffee may help to reduce the effects of the migraine. As coffee has caffeine it helps by restricting the blood vessels causing the receptors to be blocked. You can add a few drops of lemon juice, freshly squeezed. But be warned that for some people caffeine can actually make the migraine worse. Or it can cause another rebound headache.
Feverfew
Did you ever hear about feverfew? It is a herb that is used to help combat migraines effectively. As it contains parthenolide. It works because it helps to prevent inflammation and help to relax the muscles. As it helps by neutralizing prostaglandins. This means it helps to reduce the pain signals.
Methods to use feverfew leaves
- Start by taking a teaspoon of dried peppermint as well as feverfew leaves. Leave it for 30 minutes in a cup of hot water. Strain it and drink the tea as the day progresses. Do this till the pain goes away. Or
- You can also eat 2 or 3 leaves each day or
- You can take dried feverfew leaves and placing it in empty capsules. Taking it as a daily supplement. But it is best to consult your doctor before doing this.
Chamomile
Chamomile is effective in helping to relieve the pain of migraine as it has soothing properties as well as anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties. Just by drinking chamomile tea it can help to even prevent getting migraines. It is best to use "german chamomile" as it has proved to be most effective against migraines.
Using chamomile
- 2 or 3 teaspoons dried chamomile flowers with a cup of hot water. Leave it for a few minutes and you can strain the tea. Now you can add some honey or lemon juice as you would prefer. Drink this tea for at least 4 times during the day.
- You can mix equal amounts of chamomile, horehound and meadowsweet with hot water in a cup. Leave it for minimum 5 minutes. Strain and enjoy the tea.
Ginger
Ginger works for the fact that it works against inflammation in blood as well as the brain. Also ginger helps as it blocks the prostaglandins. Meaning it helps as it blocks the substance that helps to promote your muscles to contract thus causing pain.
Using ginger
- You can chew a piece of raw ginger during the day till you feel it has helped and relieved the migraine. This should also help to ease nausea and troubling digestive system
- Drink tea made with ginger during the day. If you even feel a migraine coming you can make this tea and drink it.
Additional tips and advice
It is also wise to consider relaxation methods such as yoga or even meditation. Try to be more relaxed even if it means finding a space that you can find your balance again. Release stress, that is very important. Also drink lots of water and avoid any foods that you know may cause or trigger migraine attacks. If you don't know what exact food causes it. Make a list of what you ate and cut out an ingredient each time. You will find exactly what helps trigger a migraine attack for you.
