Making your own Kombucha tea at home. The health craze that took the world by storm

And finally as promised here is the recipe to make your own Kombucha at home. If this is the first time you are here on this site. Please check the article about what you have to know before making Kombucha if this will be the first time you make it. As it is vital to know the do's and the dont's when making Kombucha. And if you don't have scoby that is needed to make Kombucha. Please check the previous article. It tells how to make your own scoby for Kombucha at home. 


Why would it be considered good to drink Kombucha. Known as the tea that has been fermented with mother of mushroom. Because of the scoby. Because this sweet healthy drink that has lower amounts of sugar. But is also good for gut health. It is filled with Vitamin B, antioxidants and also folic acid. Kombucha tea is also full of probiotics. Among other things. 


How to make Kombucha at home.


Ingredients


  • 3 liters water, boiled. You can use filtered water.
  • 5 tea bags. It can be green tea, rooibos or black tea. The choice is yours.
  • 1 cup Sugar. Raw or white sugar. Again your preference
  • 1 Scoby. Do remember if you don't have scoby the previous article gives you the recipe to make your own home made scoby.
  • 1 cup Kombucha is needed from the previous batch.


Instructions

Combine the water and sugar in a saucepan. Place it on the stove. Let it simmer on low heat until the sugar is fully dissolved. Remove from the heat. Now add the tea bags and let it cool down for up to an hour. 
Remove the tea bags. Leave the mixture to cool till it reaches room temperature. Now make sure to use a sterilized glass container for the next step. Add the freshly made tea in the container. Add the scoby and the Kombucha tea. Place a dish towel over and make sure to place a rubber band to secure the towel in place. 

Place the freshly made Kombuca in a warm place, but make sure it isn't in direct sunlight. The room should be between 24 to 32 degrees Celsius. Leave the mixture for minimum 10 days. Do not disturb it. Just let it work it's magic. 

Remember that a new baby scoby will develop in this time. It will have a sour taste because the scoby will feed on the sugar that was added. Which is why the sugar is a vital step in making Kombucha. It will be ready when the sour taste is fully developed. Strain the Kombucha. You can use a plastic sieve. or you can use a coffee filter. But do not. I repeat do not use anything metal! 

It is important to leave the scoby and one cup of the Kombucha to start making a new batch Kombucha.  

Please note that when a scoby is forming it will start to look a bit gelatin. If it should start to form mold you should throw it away as it can be harmful. The harmful mold is known as Aspergillus.

Making your own Scoby for Kombucha at home

As the last article mentioned today we will discuss making Kombucha. But after intitial thoughts I decided it is best to discuss how to make your own scoby for Kombucha. Which is off course the most important part of Kombucha tea. The big secret. You can purchase scoby or get at least a quarter from anyone you know. But I think it is best to give an article on growing your own scoby for Kombucha.
Please read the previous article if you want to make your own Kombucha. As it is good to know the precautions to take before making this wonderful and healthy tea at home.

Process to make Scoby for Kombucha.

It is vital to purchase a bottle of raw unflavored Kombucha. As that is what you need to grow your own scoby. Also known as mother of mushroom. Pour the kombucha into a container or jar. Preferably glass. Now leave this aside for now as we continue the next step. 


Use a separate container, jar or cup to make your own tea. Make 1 cup tea. Whether it is green tea, black tea or rooibos. It is your personal preference. As each has their own unique health benefits. Pour hot water into container. (just 250 ml to 300 ml will be enough) Now add sugar. 2 table spoons should be enough. The sugar is a vital part of the process. The scoby feeds on the sugar so do not leave the sugar out of this process! Leave it to cool down until it reaches room temperature. When it is cooled down add the freshly made tea to the Kombucha. Now make sure to cover the container with a dish towel. You can use a coffee filter too if you prefer. But make sure it is sealed tightly with a rubber band. This whole process should be kept very hygienic and clean! 

Place the tea in a warm spot. Temperature should be between 68 to 85ºF . (20 to 29ºC) But out of direct sunlight. It must be left for at least 7 days so a new scoby can form. After a week you should see what is called a baby scoby as it develops on the surface. 
So how should it look? 

A Scoby when it is starting to develop looks translucent and clear. But as time passes it start to change color looking less translucent and clear, white and thicker. It starts to look like gelatin. Leave the scoby to form till it is at least a quarter inch thick before making your own Kombucha. This process can take a month. If after three weeks you dont see a scoby forming you can throw you can start this process over.

Kombucha. The healthy drink that has been around for 2000 years. And here is why.

Yesterday I was told about Kombucha. Kombucha is a sugary sweet tea and yeast that is fermented. A specific type of yeast! And is said to be good for a variety of illnesses. And ailments. You can make your own or you can buy it. The choice is yours. 

Some of the people that use it claim that it helps to boost your immune system, helps your body to get rid of toxins, also others say it can prevent cancer, heart disease and high blood pressure. It is also ideal to use if you want to lose weight. It can even increase your energy levels. But we will continue this part later on in this article.


Scientific viewpoint
From a scientific point of view. There is no proof that it actually does any of the healthy things mentioned earlier. However no one can deny it is ideal for gut health. So if you do have any of the conditions I named earlier. You will still have to consider a healthy lifestyle change. And not just rely on Kombucha to fix any situation. 
Health benefits that is real
As as it is filled with probiotics, has loads of vitamin b contains caffeine and limited amount of sugar. It can be accepted that it does have wonderful benefits to consider. 

If you want to make Kombucha at home. Take note

But if you consider making your own Kombucha you must know hygiene is extremely important. Your bottle or bottles must be clean. Your hands should be clean. The advice from the FDA is. Make sure everything is sanitary. That means any equipment used to make Kombucha and your hands too. Also mentioned by the FDA. Only then will it be safe to make your own Kombucha. Use glass, stainless steel or plastic containers for your home made Kombucha. Personally I think glass would be best. But that is my personal opinion. 

The important part you also have to know. 
There was at least one fatality from the use of Kombucha. Misusing it can cause liver issues, nausea, lactic acidosis (caused by too much lactic acid) and even allergic reactions. So if you consider making this. Then keeping everything sanitary clean is extremely important as you can see. Drinking this mixture 3 times a day is considered a safe amount. That means no more than 240 ml 3 times a day. No more!! 

So lets sum up some of the benefits of Kombucha

  • May even be considered as healthy as green tea. 
  • And we all know how good green tea is for health.

  • It can help you manage diabetes
  • Kombucha helps to slow down digestion of carbohydrates you consume. That by itself help to lower your blood sugar levels. Kombucha can also help improve the functions of your kidneys and liver.


  • It can help prevent cancer.
  • Because it has anti cancer properties. Because it contains high amounts of ani-oxidants and tea polyphenols.

So to sum it up. Kombucha if made correctly is highly beneficial for your health. Because it is filled with probiotics among other things. This sweet and sugary tea has been around this long for a great reason. That is very clear.

Detox drink that works for belly fat and weight loss

Want to lose unwanted weight. But also that dreaded belly fat? How many of us would love to just easily get rid of that unwanted weight or belly fat. Just to wish it gone. But it isnt that easy. No matter how long we stare at it. So the options are obvious. Take action or accept the changes you so wish to change. I chose taking action. And because of that. I am sharing the successful weight loss drink recipe with you. Try it and you will be amazed at the results. 
It is safe easy and it really works. Yes this actually works and an added bonus. It is a great detox drink. You will also get a flat tummy just by drinking this.  It becomes a delicious drink you can enjoy.


Ingredients.
Water about 500 ml for each container or bottle
Lemon slices 3 to 4 slices
Cucumber slices 4 to 5 slices
Ginger slices 4 to 5 slices
Mint leaves. just a few. about ten
Apple cider vinegar with mother enzyme (raw) 2 teaspoons
Personally I like to add a teaspoon lemon juice also. But that is personal preference

Method
Put all ingredients with water in the bottle or pitcher. 
Leave for at least 6 six hours
Drink this every morning on an empty stomach. 
And at night just before going to bed 

I prefer 1 liter bottles. I also prefer this as my detox drink during the day. But I have to admit I found myself craving sugar or anything sweet for the first few days. And because of that I added half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder.

It is all about personal preference. The amount is a safe guideline. 
It is a natural infused drink that tastes delicious and has wonderful benefits. So consider this drink the next time you decide to lose weight. Combining 3 ingredients will help you lose belly fat fast

Most look and say I can accept everything except this flabby belly fat. But what to do? If you are one of the many who feel like this. You really are not alone. Exercising and eating right is the right way to go. But what about helping your body with a much needed boost.

Ingredients
Handful of fresh parsley
1 lemon
Half cup of water

Take a handful of parsley and put in a blender.
Squeeze out the juice from the lemon and add it to the parsley that is already in the blender.
Now add the water
Mix everything in the blender making sure everything is smooth
Drink this every morning on an empty stomach
You can do this for 3 to 5 days.

Please note
If you haven't reached your desired weight. Please take a ten day break before starting with this drink again for another 5 days. Continue this cycle till you reach your goal weight 

Why it is effective
Lemon as many will know helps to get rid of excess water weight and gets rid of fats within the body.
Parsley is effective because it has the vitamins that helps for improved digestion

What you should know about water if you have a heart condition

In previous articles I posted why we need to drink more water. Water is good for health and beauty and has numerous benefits. You can read about it here


But with that said.
As good and healthy as water can be. Water isnt healthy for everyone. For those with heart complications it can be completely different. It is always best to get your doctor's insight before considering to drink more water. 

If you drink too much water it makes your heart work harder. It may cause serious health conditions. So how do you drink the amount prescribed without drinking too much water then?

It is always best to have a bottle or container to make sure you don not go over the amount prescribed. Also remember that anything that melts such as ice cream or lollies is considered as part of your daily liquid allowed. Gelatine is also added to liquids. Yes even soup is included in that daily amount of fluids. Coffee tea juice also considered part of your daily liquid allowance. 

So what do you do when you deal with thirst? It is good to consider chewing gum or candy. For diabetics sugarless is advised. It is good to have a container and drink through out the day. That will also help with the battle against thirst. 

If you know you have a heart condition it is always best to consult your doctor before making health changes. Even if it is drinking water. What is safe for one person is not considered safe for another person.

Do remember the Daniel diet is about no meats too.  But as you are restricted from eating meat during this time it means you must find your proteins elsewhere. So it is good to think about adding beans nuts and seeds to your diet.Which is why I suggest vegan recipe ideas for a 21 day weight loss plan. Dont stick to one certain fruit or vegetable. It is about eating different fruits and vegetables as it has so many different nutrients. 

What you can drink 
Only fluids that you can drink is water. Yes it means no coffee tea, even herbal teas. Just pure water is approved. It also means no sodas or juice. Even if it says 100 pure juice. Not surprising if you consider the benefits of water. You can read about the benefits of water here. 

Always check your labels as the idea is cleansing your body of toxins. So do take the time to read and check if there is preservatives or sugar added. This has shown to be a healthy and successful change for weight loss. As well as improving overall wellbeing. But no doubts it will take will power and commitment to staying focused.

It is said that if you drink enough water you wont suffer from colds or flue. Some would actually recommend it. Others will say appearance of skin improves. Some say that they find they are energized. Unnecessary snacking stops as three liters of water doesn't make you feel hungry. Others will say they find that they are hungrier than usual. Some will swear by it that it helps you lose weight

Water is very important for the body. It keeps us hydrated. Is a natural detox as it gets rid of the toxins. But as with many things too much water can be dangerous too. I confess use an app that reminds me to drink water. But I don't rely on it telling me. I stay with my goal and drink water. 

 Weight loss
For weight loss many will tell you drink warm water with the juice of one lemon. Others add two garlic pieces to the warm lemon water. It improves your metabolic rate and get your body burning fats faster. 

Now I started drinking three liters of water a day. I have my one liter bottle with me where ever I go. It is summer and hot. Strange how easy drinking three liters of water is then. Have I seen differences? I can say that it does help with weight loss. If you drink water your skin looks well hydrated. Many skin problems clear up when drinking water. Your skin becomes clear. But I never had any skin problems. So that is the opinion of a dear friend.

Update
It has been about a month since I started. As I started drinking water I started noticing that my skin has improved. That starts within one week. Not that I ever had skin problems but it looks better still. Improved younger clear radiant. These are a few I can describe what happened. I can say you will lose weight if you drink the needed amount of water. Not that it was a reason that I started drinking water. I started because I want to live well and healthy. Now if I don't drink water I get thirsty for water, where in the beginning I struggled to drink 3 liters. Now it seems my body wants the water.

Turmeric. The benefits of golden milk.

Golden milk. You ever heard of it? It is said to be a wonderful drink that can cure and relief many ailments. It is called nature's aspirin. Because it is a great anti inflammatory as well as a great antioxidant it is of great benefit to your health. 


Benefits of golden milk

  • Prevents infections. 
  • Relief of pain and swelling.
  • Relief from joint paints
  • Cough relief
  • Makes skin glow and improve elasticity
  • Treat diarrhea (with low fat milk)
  • Treats indigestion
  • General detox
  • Slower alzheimer's disease
  • Prevent certain cancers

Basic recipe

  • Half to one inch turmeric 
  • 8 ounces of milk

Combine ingredients in pot and leave to heat up in pot. No longer than 15 minutes. Take off plate when milk is almost boiling. Strain and enjoy when it has cooled down.  

Soothes inflammation and diarrhea while strengthening bones.

Face wash or face mask recipe

  • Quarter cup milk
  • Half teaspoon ground turmeric

Combine ingredients. Soak washcloth in mixture. 
Apply directly on skin and leave for 10 minutes. 

Sore throat recipe


  • Half teaspoon turmeric 
  • One teaspoon ginger (minced)
  • Quarter cup water
  • Milk to fill cup


Mix everything together.  Warm that milk almost boils. Leave the mixture to cool off. Add your sweetener (sugar, honey) Boil again and drink mixture hot.
You can add peppercorns as a personal preference. It helps the body to absorb the turmeric

Mint and citrus home remedy drink that works for bloating

Most of us know that feeling of experiencing bloating at times. Such an uncomfortable feeling to have. But with this drink it should help deal with that uncomfortable feeling and give relief, best of all it is safe and natural. Great thirst quencher that is tasty and delicious. Ingredients
10 fresh mint leaves
2 teaspoons of pureed or chopped ginger
2 sliced lemons
1/2 of a cucumber (sliced)
Three quarts of water

Method
Add all the ingredients to the water
Allow to stand overnight in a pitcher that is covered. 
Serve  as desired. 
Hot or chilled with ice

You can do it yourself and you benefit from it without any side effects. Not only is this drink healthy and good for bloating. But it is also delicious.

I recently started drinking grape fruit juice. It is 100% pure juice as I am lucky that I have a tree that is at this moment fully stocked. So if you want to know about the benefits of grapefruit. Allow me to answer this question for you. It does have numerous benefits that shouldn't be ignored.



According to studies done it is very healthy. It can decrease your chances of getting diabetes heart diseases and obesity. It can even improve your complexion. Your energy levels will increase and if you want to lose weight this is a healthy alternative  to help with weight loss.

Despite all the hype about it being the wonderful addition in weight loss. It isnt as much about the fact that you will lose weight. It is just the boost needed though. So please best to leave it out of your diet! 
Those with gastroesophageal disease, also known as GERD. Can experience heartburn especially when eating high acidic foods. And grapefruit is one of them. But it is different for each person.

As seen it is a wonderful fruit to enjoy. It has many wonderful attributes and is great for health. And even improving your appearance. If it is hot and many of us don't like water. And on extremely hot days coffee isnt desires. So with that in mind what can be done when you don't want fizzy drinks. But  that isn't really healthy. What if we can have a fresh cool drink that is beneficial to our health?

Most of us know how important our immune system is. When we feel a cold is showing itself. Most of us try to take extra care to deal with that cold fast.  Extra precautions. So considered this healthy drink. Not only is it delicious. But it gives a much needed boost to your immune system.


Immune booster drink

Ingredients

Three quarts of water
1 cup of strawberries (chopped)
2 oranges (peeled)
1 cup of pineapple (cubed)

Method
Combine all the ingredients to the water in a pitcher. Chill for two hours. Drink as preferred with ice, or without.

This drink isnt only delicious but very healthy too. 
Especially when seasons start to change.

Natural drink to detox as well as improve immune system

Some times we all need to boost and help our bodies
Especially when we know we are not feeling well and our bodies need an immune boost.
Or you want to detox as you can feel you are tired sluggish and slow even to start the day
Change it. Feel energized. Ready to take on the day every day.
Or you are concerned about seasons changing. 
so you can think of it as a precaution.
Also do remember that detox helps with weight loss as it gets rid of toxins in the body


I have found a detox recipe that I hope will work for you
I personally found it makes a big difference for me
Well either way. It is a great way of having a delicious healthy drink that detoxes the body.

Ingredients
2 Apples.
Handful of spinach leaves.
1 Cucumber slice.
1 Slice of lime.
Half a celery stick.
¼ pineapple
¼ avocado
Ice cubes

Mix together in a blender and enjoy it

It is rich in potassium. 
Rich in vitamin C which helps to boost immune system. 
This detox has lots of protein. 
Which helps to replenish the red blood cells and help the white blood cells.

Simple and easy beauty tricks that makes a difference

We all want to try and do our best to look good. But some simple beauty hacks makes all the difference. For some it may be a reminder. So see if you know about it.


Remember to have a daily routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising your skin in the morning and at night.
Never go to bed with make up on. It is important that your skin breath while you sleep. It naturally heals itself in that time period. While you are sleeping your skin heals itself. Now with make up on. How would that be effective?
To make your skin feel fresh it is a great idea to refrigerate your facial scrub or mask. Just 15 minutes is enough.

Dark circles can be removed by cutting a raw potato in slices. Place on eyes and relax.
When we take the juice of a grated potato and apply it on skin, it will brighten and lighten our skin tone. Remember to leave it for 30 minutes.
Remember to use a sun protection lotion of at least 30 to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. Not only is it dangerous. But it is also promotes aging skin.

Use a soap that is mild instead of harsh soaps as it affects the skin's natural ph levels.
When mixing oatmeal with warm water and using it as a facial mask. It will tighten the skin and also has a soothing effect on skin. Remember to leave on for 20 minutes.
You can add some plain yogurt or honey for radiant skin to your oatmeal mixture.
For pearly white teeth you can mash a few strawberries and rub it on teeth. 
Remember when washing hair it is important to use luke warm water. Never use hot water as it strips the hair of natural oils that is meant to protect hair and scalp.

Best time to apply lotion is just after shower or bath. It locks the moisture in the skin.
Exfoliating once a week helps to remove dead skin cells and reveal a more radiant skin.
If you want soft lips apply Vaseline and massage lips with tooth brush. 
Just after a shower is the best time to shave that way you avoid nicks and cuts.
When you use ice cubes on your face. Just before applying make up. Your make up will last longer.
To reduce hair fall add zinc, biotin and iron supplements to your diet.

When you apply egg white on your face. It will have a tightening effect on skin and also shrink facial pores. Leave on for 15 minutes.
It is always a good idea to rub elbows with sliced lemons to get rid of tan or darker skin colour.
Fr inflamed pimples you can apply eye drops on the affected area. Pimple will be reduced and inflammation will clear up .

I know this is said lots all over the internet. But try to drink 2 litres of water daily. It really is a major secret in natural beauty. It is effective in weight loss. Cleanse the body from inside. Help your organs to function better. Your kidneys. Helps your skin looks younger and more radiant. Think of it as moisturising skin from the inside out. Now as you apply moisturiser on skin. Water does the same from within where it matters just as much. Take a glass every hour. Don't have to try and drink it all at once. But through the day. Preferably first glass on an empty stomach when you wake up. Flushes out all the toxins.

Losing fat the natural way with this drink

If you have fat you want to get rid of, 
Then you may want to think about this
It will help eliminate fat, but it is good for health and promote energy too.

Water by itself is a natural way of detoxing.
It hydrates and cleans from inside and gives a radiant appearance on the outside too.



Ingredients

Water 2 litres
Grated ginger, 1 teaspoon. (Must be  freshly grated).
1 Cucumber, sliced.
1 lemon, sliced.
12 spearmint leaves.

Method

Mix all ingredients together in a pitcher. 
Leave in fridge over night. 
Enjoy the next day and see the difference it will make.

You will see the fat melting. 
But you will also discover your appearance will improve.

The skin is known as the largest organ of the body. We know that some foods help us to feel good. But do you know that some  type of foods help  to improve outward appearance also?
Yes some foods can make you look great. Not only are these foods healthy. But its also delicious.



Water.
Most of us know how good water is for the skin. It improves skin elasticity. Get rid of toxins. Moisturise.  To improve the effect of water on the skin. Feel free to add lemon to detox 

Green tea
Great well being can be achieved with green tea. But after new studies it was discovered that green tea protects the skin from the sun's harmful rays.  So it is a extra protection against the sun. 

Coconut oil
Using coconut oil will help prevent flare ups. Will help to improve clear skin. Moisturise but also it is a great anti inflammatory and antibacterial product. So consider using coconut oil for slowing down the ageing process.

Dark chocolate.
Skin's appearance can easily tell of ageing skin. The sun's harmful rays ages skin quickly. But  eating dark chocolate the skin is protected against the harmful exposure of ultraviolet radiation.
Now you have a reason to eat chocolate and know it is good for you.

Walnuts
It boosts the collagen production of the skin. In the process helping give 
radiant and youthful appearance It is rich in omega 3 and protein.

Tomatoes
Tomatoes is known to be a very powerful antioxidant.Rich in selenium and lycopene. Both  of these items can be found in tomatoes. Eliminating damage caused by free radicals. Protecting the skin and also our bodies from age spots, sun damage and also. Very important skin cancer.

If you want to have something to drink that is delicious and healthy. Here is a few recipes for fruit infused water. Especially if you don't like water. Even though it is healthy. Consider this option. Best part? You get the nutrients of the ingredients you add too



Sweet tart
1 cup cherries, pitted and halved.
2 cups pineapple chunks.
3 granny smith apples, cored and thinly sliced.
6 cups ice cubes
Fill pitcher to top with water
Leave in the fridge for two hours

Slightly spicy
2 cucumbers, thinly slices
2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and sliced 
6 cups ice cubes
Fill pitcher to top with water
Leave in the fridge for two hours

Strawberry basil blast
8 basil leaves
3 cups strawberries, halved
6 cups ice cubes
Fill pitcher to top with water
Leave in the fridge for two hours

Mango mojito
6 mint sprigs
3 cups mango, cubed
2 limes, thinly sliced
6 cups ice cubes
Fill pitcher to top with water
Leave in the fridge for two hours

Strawberry kiwi cooler
3 cups strawberries, halved
3 kiwis, thinly sliced
2 lemons, thinly sliced
6 cups ice cubes
Fill pitcher to top with water
Leave in the fridge for two hours

Cucumber quencher
6 mint sprigs
4 limes, thinly sliced
6 cups ice cubes
Fill pitcher to top with water
Leave in the fridge for two hours

Orange berry
5 oranges, thinly sliced 
2 cups raspberries
6 cups ice cubes
Fill pitcher to top with water
Leave in the fridge for two hours

Thirst quencher
1 cup strawberries
1 cup cucumber, sliced
2 limes, thinly sliced 
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
6 cups ice cubes
Fill pitcher to top with water
Leave in the fridge for two hours

The benefit of these recipes is it can be done at home. Not too much sugar and is very healthy and delicious.

 ¼ Banana
 ¼ Pineapple
1 Apple
200 gram natural yoghurt (vegan or soya)
 ½ Teaspoon spirulina 

Blend all ingredients together in a blender.

Health benefits.
As I mentioned Iron is very important. But also one of the most common deficiencies.
Iron is good for hair and nails.  Helps with concentration. But most know that it is great help for teeth and bones.



So consider this as a health way to help boost your iron intake.
